Big Wheels!

With some leftover birthday money we purchased Lane a Huffy Green Machine big wheel. We have wanted to get the boys one for quite sometime, but they have been off the market until just recently. Uncle Jeremy and Daddy can remember these as boys and thought they were so awesome. The Green Machine is a little too large for Bryce, so we got him a Radio Flyer Big Flyer. They were out riding this afternoon in the 40' weather, clad with hats and gloves....they love their new wheels!! Uncle Jeremy can't wait to give the Green Machine a spin again at Christmas time. They already have the slid and skid down...didn't take them but a few minutes!!

Firsts!

Today was a day of firsts......Lane went hunting with Jay for the first time. Unfortunately they did not even see anything. He got up with Jay at 4:30, but 10:00 he was pretty worn out. Bryce and I made an apple pie this morning and he enjoyed peeling all of the apples for me! Especially because he didn't have to share it with his brother. Tonight I made the cresent rolls I mentioned earlier this week. I put some in the freezer and the rest I use to make apple dumplings! They were pretty good! Jay loved them, he is my bread man, so I trust his judgement!

Apple pie...a little messy, but still so good!

Apple dumplings with homemade cresent rolls.
Apple Dumplings
Refrigerated cresent rolls
2 apples
1 cup sugar
1 can Mountain Dew or Sprite
1 stick butter, melted
Cut up apples and place one lg. slice inside each cresent roll. Roll up and place in 9 x13 pan. Mix butter, sugar and soda together. Pour over rolls. Bake at 350' for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown. I use peaches sometimes and we prefer them over apples. Both good though.

Warm out of the oven!

Thanks Stacy for telling us about Little Birdie Secrets, a great new blog! These cresent rolls are from the blog. I hope to have them in my oven tomorrow and I am sure they will be a hit! With a little more butter, they will be scrumptious!

Little Birdies' Homemade Crescent Rolls

2 c. warm water, 110-115°
2 Tbsp. rapid rise yeast (aka bread machine yeast)
1/2 c. oil
1/2 c. powdered milk
1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp. salt
5-6 c. bread flour
Softened butter

Pour water in a bowl and sprinkle yeast over the top. Allow to soften about 5 minutes. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Dough will be a little sticky, but if it's really sticky add a little more flour. Allow to rise in bowl for 45 minutes. Punch down and allow to rise for another 45 minutes. Break into two equal pieces. On a floured surface, roll out each chunk into a large circle. Spread softened butter (not melted) onto entire circle. Cut into wedges with pizza cutter. (I do 12 for smaller rolls, or 8 for larger.) Starting with wide end of triangles, roll up like a crescent roll. Place on cookie sheets with pointed end tucked underneath (so it doesn’t pop open during baking) and bake at 400° for 10-14 minutes, or until just golden on top.

~1950's~

Today was the 50th day of Kindergarten! The kids and teachers dress up in 50's dress! It is amazing how willingly Bryce got up this morning and was ready to go....funny how something little is such a big deal!! They had a hulla hoop contest, Root Beer floats, Bubble blowing contest, and dancing! What a fun day!
Bryce, Mrs. Ray, and his best friend Braden.
The little guy is such a carbon copy of his daddy, so cute I want to just pinch him(that smirk kills me)!!

Best buddies

Bedtime

This is the scene very often at bedtime in our house! Both reading in Lane's bed! I love listening to Lane read to Bryce and then Bryce tries to read to him! Funny how they can snuggle like this one minute and the next be tumbling on the floor. Each other's Best Friend and Worst Enemy!!

Pumpking Carving

The boys and I had fun craving our pumpkins! Lane thought it would be a great idea to carve them outside, it was a brilliant idea! Thanks, buddy! They each wanted to help clean out their own pumpkin, which was a big change from last year! They were amazed at how many seeds are inside. I forget just what a chore it is to get them all cleaned out. Sissy even thought she wanted a taste or two, but changed her mind quite quickly!

Our finished pupmkins!

All a glow at night!

Checking out the "guts" as they call them! Bryce wanted to see just what it looked like before he started scooping.

Bryce working hard.

Sober Lane with his jack o' lantern!

Bryce all smiles with his. He wanted it just like his brothers!
